Corporate Blogs CAN be Good

July 6, 2009 · Comments

Rob HatchI am sitting at the table with Rob Hatch, and we’re talking about his brother-in-law, Bill Carew, who runs Ovation Benefits. He just started a corporate blog with a post entitled How Our Healthcare System Killed the King of Pop, and it’s actually pretty darned good.

This is not a complex post. This is a pointer to a good example of corporate blogging, insofar as it is topical, is timely, reflects on his business, and is interesting to read.

Good on you, Bill, and thanks to Rob Hatch for pointing it out over drinks in a delicious cabin in Maine.

ChrisBrogan.com runs on the Thesis Theme for WordPress

Thesis WordPress theme

Thesis is the search engine optimized WordPress theme of choice for serious online publishers. If you’re a blogger who doesn’t understand a lot of PHP, Thesis will give a ton of functionality without having to alter any code. For the advanced, Thesis has incredible customization possibilities via Thesis hooks.

With so many design options, you can use the template over and over and never have it look like the same site. The theme is robust and flexible enough not only to accommodate a site like ChrisBrogan.com, but also to enable the site to run far more efficiently than it ever has before.

  • I find the headline interesting in so far as to assume most corporate blogs are 'bad'. Is this true? Are a majority of them just press releases without insight and honest discussion? If so, that landscape is changing by necessity. Thanks for the good example.
  • Yes, I'd say that MOST corporate blogs are crap. And that's a technical term that means "not very personable, not very interesting, not very two way, etc."
  • That can probably be said of most blogs - and most media - in general.

It may be a great piece -- if the audience is under 40.

Text too small for a 40+ audience.
  • It's a decent start for sure, though I think it might need more than 2 posts in 2 months to offer a fuller picture. ;-)
  • Corporate blogs are good, As Chris Donaldson mentioned, it is hard for them to be good, but the can be great
