Of course, without words, there are some potential gaps. You can fill them in with nonsense words. I won’t judge.

Slide 33, Marching bands rarely have a piano player… so true. You have to take your message where they are. I have a pastor friend named Marty Edwards, who loves to ride Harley Davidson motorcycles. He noticed a few years back that his riding friends weren’t coming to church. He also noticed that when he wore his Harley gear to church that people in the pews got nervous. So he did something creative. He took the church to the Harley guys. He started Black Sheep ministries and organized a ride for his friends on Sundays. What started with a few guys, has now spread to over 23 states. If they aren’t coming to you, you have to go to them!

I LOVE this presentation because the format and style were so unexpected (I’m shallow like that) and because it’s rich with ideas to be swiped and used in my own space.

I still don’t like the slide called A Very Old Business. I think that the perception that agencies don’t and never will get social marketing is a very common belief in the online world, but it’s not necessarily a fair one. Yes, there are lots of agencies who won’t get it. There are lots of marketers in general who won’t get it, but some agencies may be ahead of the street vendors. Painting with a broad brush always makes me itchy.

That would be the jist of the script I’d add for that slide :)

What I’d love to see more about (I’m fair and balanced, Fox News style) is the idea of presence points. That little two word combo grabbed me. I wonder if there could be a sort of Klout type system that would measure your breadth and depth of online activity. That could be kind of neat and would also eliminate the concept that any one platform is the basket in which all eggs should be placed.

Although at first I had trouble connecting the dots without all the audio along with it… but then I kinda liked it. It was a like a game (what is Chris probably saying here?). I came up with some good answers because I had to think for myself! Imagine that…

The thing I liked most—ABC (Always Be Connecting). I’ve heard that before, but it really hit home this time.

    Hi Chris,

I agree with you on Street Vendors. This is sales on the web. It’s salesmen who will win biggest. Look at @Garyvee. Just because it’s online we still need to sell. we still need to tell people what we offer, how our product is unique. What itches- it will scratch!

Second I didn’t scroll all through but it needs to include research. It needs to involve testing a la Claude Hopkins. If we aren’t asking questions in real time we are just broadcasting. My friend Nikki Means asked me about what I think a blog should look like. I am salesman and marketeer not a Social Media guy but I answered. That kind of data allows us to get more compelling, more specific and more to the point. That’s advertsing!

Agree with Rick always be connecting is a great idea.

    Chris -

You might have explained this a little bit in your actual presentation, but on your slide you mention the “primary experience.” Can you expound on that a little bit? Of course I have my own thoughts just reading those two words in the context, but would love to know your thoughts.

Great job and LOVE the new design for HBW!

What actually ‘Primary Experience’ ? Is it really suitable for some people? Tough the presentation was good and important. New design for HBW attracted me too.
