Help Everyone Around You – Kitchen Table Talks

I haven’t done a Kitchen Table Talk in a while. Here’s a post about helping everyone else around you, which I think is what’s next for businesses who want to grow using social media.

Oh, and the tee shirt I’m wearing in the video is one I bought from @mickgaluski, who runs Toy Soldier, a business that gets it.

People always ask which camera I used to shoot my video. I use the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 (that’s a review of the camera).

Still riding on the high from Free State Social last week, a bunch of us in Wichita got together yesterday to organize a monthly local social media group. Wichita has some issues (urban sprawl, suspicion of new tech, small biz community = more competition for consultants, midwest frugality, etc.) but at least a dozen people are committed to work together to achieve something here. Feels good to be part of it.

Nice to see a bit of Warhammer 40K in there. I'm actually an affiliate for toy soldiers and have been using the power of social networks to draw mass traffic to my Space Wolves blog resource.

I don't want to blow my own trumpet in arrogance, but you should check it out.
It goes to show what comprehensive content can do for revenue generation by forming an essential resource for a niche within a niche.

Plus this niche has a fantastic blogosphere where everyone helps everyone. It's awesome :)

    Keep up the great blogging!

Great advice. I'm always trying to share snippets of my knowledge with others and help support the interests of social media with people around me. I do it free because I feel more people should be aware of what's going on rather than feeling like it's a hook for something. Social media provides value and the biggest hurdle is letting people feel empowered to participate and influence change.

Chris, thank you for including us in your kitchen table talk. Milwaukee has a wonderful welcoming social media community. @AJBombers, @Blatzliquor and I owe much of our success to it. Teaching to and learning from so many great people in the city has allowed us to create lasting business and personal relationships. Often times with people whom we probably would have never met without it. #Twitterworks.

The best example is the real estate industry. As cutthroat as it is, some agents WANT to help their competition. Other agents don't care about their competition. Folks may enjoy perusing the comments at http://ariwriter.com/do-you-send-business-to-yo… which remains as evergreen today as when I wrote it 17 months ago.
