My Site- Now an iPhone App

December 15, 2009 · Comments

fake iphone Justin Levy told me to talk to the folks at Motherapp, who can put together iPhone apps for your blog. I’ve got an iPhone-formatted view of the web, but this is a standalone app, available in the app store. How cool is that?

So, the guys at Motherapp built my blog into an app, which actually also has Twitter and stuff blended in, and it turned out pretty cool. Oh, and it’s free.

Want it?

  • Super useful! Nice post, Chris.

I like the app but I don't see a space to be able to comment from it. If I read it there and then have to do another step to go back to the website and comment that kind of sucks.

Wow this is great! Instant download!

I know how huge mobile will be in 2010 and creating an app for my blog was just recently added to my goal plan for next year! iPhone has managed such a nice features which can not compare with each other .It creates an iPhone/Android friendly version of your site that looks amazing.

  • Simply one word to explain this post | Awesome
  • Chris,

Leaving you this message from within your app.

Wish there was an easier way to leave comments.

And DISQUS won't let me login. Had to use Twitter. Took 10 mins and needed to refresh.

Anyhow, still thinking I want this for my online magazine.

But still want this my magazine Social Media Examiner.

  • I do have a Newton I'm using as a doorstop around here somewhere. :)

If every blog becomes an app, and a tree falls in the forest, does that mean there will be nobody left to hear it?

Maybe. But I'm going to do it anyway. Nice tip!
  • Thanks for the introduction. The guys at Motherapp are great!
  • Thanks, Chris. This is awesome! Downloading now...
  • megankeane
Chris, thanks so much for this. I've already signed our nonprofit up to give it a whirl. This is a great and way to help orgs. move into mobile even if the rest of their site isn't optimized for mobile yet. Appreciate the recommendation!
  • woah ... just got my iBrogan ... yep, there's an app for that ;]
  • christaavampato
This is fabulous, Chris. Thanks for the link to Motherapp. Will Motherapp also help create an app for the Android platform?
  • Nice. I might check out MotherApp for other things that I'm looking to do.
  • Kristin
I will have to download your app and try it out. I like the idea that your blog is available in a To-Go version, though the drawback is that we need an iPhone.

Loved the image you chose to go with it - we tested the Newtons for medical students back when I worked at the University. And of course I owned one myself - for testing purposes of course!
  • This is wicked awesome! It would be kewl if you could comment directly in the app. I imagine it's pushed to the site for stats or disqus sign in or something like that?
  • annewalshcoach
I feel cranky about this :-( ( I don't have an iPhone/don't want an iPhone/will not be buying an iPhone)...is there a version for non-iPhone phones?
  • This is just cool. Like beyond cool. And of course you would offer it free. How natural and right and like you to do. For the community. And on my bday too. That piece is just neat. :) Thanks muchly. What a way to ring in the New Year for yourself. and for us all. Thrilled for you.
  • Hilarious to see your face as an icon on my phone!

Congrats on the app though! Great idea. I like the mobile version of your blog even better since I read most of your posts in Google Reader from my iPhone. This should make commenting much easier from a smartphone web browser.

Can't wait to learn more about how you do this!
  • Wow! That's a very smart idea. Way to go Chris!
  • Neat! Now have Chris Brogan in my pocket :P (really didn't mean that to sound how it did)

  • Awesomeness! How I wished I had an iPhone!
  • tomfasano
Great idea, Chris. Thanks for leading me toward this amazing concept. I plan to use it for my own blog.
  • Turns out it was Justin Levy who turned me on to it. ON Twitter: @justinlevy
  • Just downloaded. Great layout and ease of use; extremely important aspects. Motherapp wasn't my idea, but congratulations. I'm always looking for recommendations on app developers and new products.

Wish I'd known you were doing this, I'd have advise you on keywords when uploading the binary. Next time, if you like.
  • How freakin cool it that. Your own iPhone app and it is your blog. Too cool. Congrats Chris! Makes me wish I had an iPhone and not a Blackberry.
  • Justin Levy & I were speaking about Mobile enabled blogs and he did mention Motherapps, great to see you implement it! I make a lot of sense. I love my Nice Kicks app, which pushes new blog posts on the latest Nikes & other cool sneakers to my iPhone.
  • I like it and don't at the same time. You can't and to the discussion within the ap that I could find. Can someone tell me if I am missing something!
  • If you tap the "origional site" link at the very bottom of the post it will send you here on the embeded safari engine. So it's kinda within the app I guess. Could be a little more user friendly if there was a big comment button. :)
  • Chris, I recommend this plugin instead. It creates an iPhone/Android friendly version of your site that looks amazing and since it's not an app it will work for anyone that visits your blog using an iPhone, Android and other touch devices. It also includes the Discus commenting system.

Here's the link to the plugin: http://www.bravenewcode.com/wptouch

Check out my blog on your iPhone or Android to see how it looks. http://www.hughbriss.com

    He's already using wptouch FYI.
  • LOL, yeah after he saw my comment about it. He even tweeted to thank me for the suggestion.
  • That's the biggest iPhone I've ever seen.
  • Wow! I'd like the Newton version, please! :-D Nice to have you on my iPhone! Thank you.
  • Awesome. What a great idea!
  • Wohoo, thank you for the Motherapp recommendation - I know how huge mobile will be in 2010 and creating an app for my blog was just recently added to my goal plan for next year!

    Awesome awesome awesome.
  • That is very cool. I'll take two. ;)
  • CEPC
That's excellent Chris! Now I can take you everywhere!
