No Regrets About Good Music Promotion

November 4, 2008 · Comments

Chris Blake takes matters into his own hands when it comes to promoting his music. He’s on Twitter and MySpace, and YouTube, to name a few places. Chris recently sent me his video entitled “Googling Web’s Biggest Regrets,” where he searched for what people said was their biggest regret.

Almost 75,000 views later, Chris has a pretty decent piece of promotion here, don’t you think?

We power our own change these days. In so many areas of our lives. Here in the US, that’s important to think about today. But for all the other days of the year and all the other countries, just think about how easy social software makes promotion, and check out Chris Blake’s music.

  • Pretty cool vid... one that helps people ask themselves the question.
  • Chris,

As my good friend Liz Strauss said in a Tweet earlier today: "it seems that some folks are ready to make something happen for themselves." Nuff said...
  • Chris,

What an awesome video. Thanks for taking the time to share stuff like this with us (your readers). And to extend what Ricardo said, there's no excuse anymore.

    All the Best.
  • This is a fabulous example of a smart artist using a powerful tool: Social media and a powerful concept/ vision that appeals to a mass audience: Answering the question: what are people biggest regrets? to gain exposure for his own music. By doing this he has already reached over 75,000 views which is extraordinary for an independent artist. Genius! Kudos to you Chris Blake. I wish all of the artists we represent could come up with ideas as great and as viral as yours.

  • Kudos to Chris Blake for creating such a simple and yet compelling thing. It's impossible to take your eyes off of it once it's underway. It's got it all--great images, great music, humor, pathos, even a smattering of wisdom. Well done, Chris (Blake), and good find, Chris (Brogan).
  • Great video and great sharing! :)
Why regret in this temporary and short life? Enjoy it!
  • Amazing video and he definitely got some interesting and profound regrets. It is interesting what people chose to regret. Thanks for sharing!! Agree with Aldhis "Why regret in this temporary and short life?" Decisions you make lead you to different places in life = always an adventure :)
  • Amazing Video, Really.
  • Love this.

First, Liz is right on. When we move with what we're called to do things like this happen and, as a nice natural by-product, some nice sales happen too.

Second, this is far less about leveraging great tools to broadcast a message and more about great tools making it possible to leverage a meaningful, passionate and authentically expressed message. It's a subtle but sea change distinction. Forget it and you can't help but make the people you want to reach your tools.

Third, as Seth's said, lead passionately and genuinely with what's most important to you and a genuine desire to serve and a tribe will assemble around you. The rest, wisely handled, will mostly take care of itself long as you stay plugged into the people.

Thanks for this today. Great timing.
  • Perfect timing (election day) for a video about regrets. Here's to hoping there are no regrets four years from now. Great find Chris!
  • The music actually plays perfectly to the material on the slide show as well. Great way for him to promote his new music on a wide platform. Will get even more hits and recognition from you promoting it. Good job Chris, I never even heard of Chris Blake before, but now will check out his myspace page to hear some other songs. Thanks.

  • Wow! That will make you laugh and choke you up! "Not holding my daughter". Still trying to get over that one!

Chris Blake gets major kudos for showing us it ain't that hard. Just a little creativity and leverage the tools we use every day.

Great video, making use of the technology that is free and available and understanding social media. I enjoyed the tune and home made vid as well. I would recommend that Chris sends a copy of his cd (assuming he has one) to pandora.com and have them add his album to the database. His sound is similar to others out there (in a good way) and he can benefit from that. Great post.
  • Good video. I like the music too, which means I am at his myspace page now poking around and listening to more music. Oh, and I added him on twitter too! Very well played. It did its job very well.
  • I work with musicians all over the US and its sad to see so many with talents do so little in promotion. Great video and very timely with the election.
  • great video, always enjoy Chris Blake's stuff!
