I love the main page for Postling, a cool site that helps people stay in tune with what people are saying about your business. Look at it here:

The page explains itself. It sets you directly into the signup process, and gives you a fat orange button to press in one quick swoop.

No matter how tricky you think your business is, THIS should be how simple your call to action should be.

Great stuff as usual – it's the simplicity that everyone, including me likes about your work. Horse sense we call it down south :)

Here are a few things I wanted -second time trying to post here now that I am logged into Disqus :(

First, this is a really good user experience and I wanted to add some things here as details go. I understand that this was a quick post for you, get this out there to all of us to see the idea – but you know some of my work and the level of detail I go to in creating in-depth ideas for clients.

Here are my thoughts:

• Love the big orange button, simple easy

• Why not add in the “Connect” feature with Facebook, Twitter to carry the message viral and allow visitors to connect with this service in the communities they are already in

• Add in videos, right below the header to allow people to “experience” the service prior to joining (I understand this may extend the conversion process, but for those in the 25-34 demographic, we know that video is a social proof point that drives conversions by playing to their behaviors

• Would an easy, 1,2,3 step visual process on the site allow visitors the ability to walk through the sales cycle result in higher conversions? More than likely yes.

Would love to hear your feedback. Not trying to “contest” the post, just always trying to add value to ideas you share-which are always great.

I totally agree with what you're saying. The site says 'Here's what we're about … here is what we want you to do' … maybe even something more like 'Here's what's in it for you … come on in, its gonna be good'

Just wanted to add a couple of comments from more of the visual design realm. The left side is slightly crammed with information ( I'm a fan of a little more whitespace, but understand the typical corporate mindset to fill, fill fill [ although I don't agree with it ] ) … and I apsolutely LOVE the way they've handled the story of their product through the hand-painted illustrations … these look like all scanned in watercolor paintings … it really adds a human sense of life and action to what Postling is all about … makes it look fun and real. And to enhance the watercolor sensibility they've continues the metaphor with all the peripheral elements in the design. A crumpled in the paper container of the site in the upper left-hand corner. The cool grainy backdrop with water stain at the very top of the page. All of these details enrich the brand and take away from a potential flatness that typically accompanies many an online experience.

On that highly positive note, I feel a little sad to report Postly has completely failed with the 'See how it works' affordance in the illustrations. Clicking on the phrase only brings the user to the next image in a series of 3. I would have expected to go to a page that really shows me how it works. Maybe a short video or Flash piece. Or at least a nice list of descriptions, headline, paragraph, headline, paragraph, headline paragraph. But something with more details. Otherwise they could have used a simple Ajax pagination affordance below the main splash graphic to let you know you can cycle through the watercolors at your own pace instead of waiting for the Ajax self-play.

Otherwise, very cool design as I noted below.

well I'm registered but at a total loss to figure out what on earth it does. It doesn't seem to link to my FB, Twitter or LinkedIn as Ping does, it doesn't seem to have the function to download the multitude of messages and comments I get on FB each day and if I post a blog post it evidently doesn't go to my blog. I'm sure I've missed something somewhere since you're all raving about it but to me I see no value in it at all. Can someone be so kind as to enlighten me.

Couldn't agree more, and I'd extend this concept to the whole of the landing page. It's so tempting to try to introduce too much of the product on first contact, yet it's never possible to communicate anything more than a first impression. I think there is going to be a massive echo, but I am in full agreement. Personally, I went to this page after reading, and sure enough because it was so easy to sign-up I did. Nothing was complicated, or number of clicks, and I really enjoyed that a “Thank you, and now wait until we email you page” came up. Once signed-up I was good to go.

I have nothing more to add than what the community has already said.

This was my reaction too. Instead of educating me when I wanted to learn more, it surprised me by changing the page and did not give me much more information than I started. I like the layout but the left hand content needs work.

If I click to ask to “See How It Works”, it means I am looking for a deeper understanding before I give you my precious information.
