Taking Down the Rockstars Page

This is just a quick update to say that I’m removing the Rockstars section on my blog.

The intent was to have a big huge page of links featuring all of you, because I truly believe the blog is about you and our interactions together. The thing is, it’s just a lot of work to manage, and I don’t see hardly ANY clicks to it any month. No one really looks in there for anything.

Truly, you are important to me just by visiting here. I’m sorry that that page didn’t do as much for you as I’d hoped. We’ll find other ways to promote you.

Thanks.

Sad to see it go, but it sounds like it was time. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with soon.

Sad, since I just submitted my site to it today. I admit, though, it was quite unwieldy and many of the sites I looked at (and trust me, I looked at *a lot* of them) appeared abandoned.

Fortunately, I can still browse the list on the cached page. I do like to see how other people design their content and their layout so I can get inspiration for my own site.

Thank you for taking the initiative, and all the time and work to
freely give folks one more thing. Appreciated.
And a mercy killing is very understandable.

    Best,

Damn, I think this was my fault. I was checking my back links, noticed the nice one from the Rockstars page and asked to have it updated. 2 days later, the whole thing is going down…

Sorry everyone, but Chris is right. I didn't get one click from it ever, just a nice BL from a great domain….

Due to the fact that I thought the Rockstar pages was a great idea, and I understand your reasoning behind taking it down, I am going to “steal” your idea. I think that even if noone clicks as much as you wish they would, it makes others feel a certain way knowing that their site may possibly get traffic. As a newbie blogger I am one of those that likes to keep hope alive.

    Hope you don't mind.

Thanks for all the time you've put into that Rock stars page. I remember how excited I was when I saw myself on there as a noob blogger. I also enjoyed checking all the wonderful blogs from fellow Brogan fans and friends.

I do think there's a way to provide the same time of thing without requiring any work on your part. You can setup an Alltop type page where your readers could add their own info and link. I use Crowdstatus for dadomatic writers.

However, you would need to get someone to be monitor to delete the occasional troll who would spam the listing. Still, it would be cool to see everyone's listing.

    In any event, thanks again.

Thanks for giving it a shot in the first place. It's a good reference to “does this idea work?” for the future.

I think it was a good idea to take it down. While the idea was noble and the intention was good, the page seemed like a linkfarm to some degree. You could use people linking to that page for SEO and build your page rank. In turn, everyone who was linked to enjoyed some of your google kool-aid. It's a shame that the black hat guys built and destroyed that system a long time ago because when people who appear to have no black hat intentions gives it a try, it looks different than the intended use.

Never saw a single hit from it. Great idea, great effort. Kind of sad that it didn't work out.

Why not have a weekly post (or bi-weekly) recommending a batch of bloggers that you read? Kinda like #FollowFriday but for bloggers?

Is there a chance you might do a random monthly Rock Star post highlighting a few on the list?

Hi Chris – I was thinking the same thing as some of the other commenters – how about an occasional post or tweet or a twitter account for rockstars. I am really interested to see what other blogs and bloggers you think are cool!
