The Anywhen Manifesto

broken clock I’m at war with those who threaten anywhen (the state that the Internet provides us by allowing me to write this when I want and you can consume it when you want). To that point, I’m writing a very small manifesto of thought. Here’s what I believe with regards to anywhen. You’re welcome to sign on (or not).

The Anywhen Manifesto

We believe that time-shifting is every bit as important as work-shifting.
We will push back on the unintentional urgency people put on us.
We will seek out time-shifting-friendly means of interacting (like Google Wave).
We will attempt to respond in a timely fashion, but as it meets our other duties and obligations.
We will do our damnedest, but forgive our occasional drowning spells.
We will create in ways that promote time-shifting-friendly consumption.
It’s not all about realtime.

There. It’s not much, but it’s what’s on my mind. Maybe it’s just further purging.

    Tech allows for time-shifting and if WE forgo the mental “anguish” we put ourselves through to not appear (to the rest of the world) that we're consuming media or interacting or contributing in REAL TIME, we will be so much better for it! :)

    I am definitely a believer in anywhen, though every so often I am just as guilty as anyone else in thinking a quick response should be an easy few minutes for someone to fit into their schedule, though I know this is highly contradictory considering I never apply this idea to my own actions (and even if I do it is a fleeting thought). I do not think this manifesto can be applied to all matters of business but on a social level it is the only way to go. By people getting used to a five second delay between their message and a reply it allows for no time to relax, time to step away and when you do people think the worst must have happened. We shouldn't have to constantly update people about what we are doing, you can always email me, anytime you want, and maybe continue on with your life rather than refreshing your page until I respond.
