To Schedule Tweets or No

I asked people on Facebook whether or not they do or don’t, should or shouldn’t schedule tweets here and there using a service like Hootsuite. Instead of telling you what I think, I wanted to share their learned opinions. For the seeing impaired, the consensus was heavily weighted towards it being okay and recommended to schedule certain kinds of tweets (like links to posts, etc):

should one schedule tweets
should one schedule tweets
should one schedule tweets
should one schedule tweets

Interesting. What are your thoughts?

    Yes, indeed.

As I listen to my followers and respond to their tweets, re-tweet their tweets, or create new tweets, I schedule them out over a period of time instead of overwhelming my timeline within the 1/2 hour I am actually “using” twitter.

Great question and comments from all.

The key to making your tweets more useful in this way is to use one of many measurement tools twitter appearing every day. These tools help you understand how to respond to your tweets in a reverse manner. I always tweet if I found something useful.

If I find a site and if I think it is cool I used to tweet it. From my dashboard I can see lots of folks jumped on that and passed it around and also thought it was cool.

My rule of thumb is if the tweet is informational and doesn’t require my full interaction, scheduling is fine. But if I’m asking a question – I want to do that live so I can be there to respond to others. It all boils down to the topic and what your goal is with each tweet.

I think scheduling tweets can be OK. I think somethings that are important are; don’t schedule at early morning hours so people no its not you, make sure you balance scheduled tweets with personal tweets that are real-time relevant, and don’t rely too heavily on scheduled tweets.

Even I think that scheduling tweet is ok if done in a proper amount, balancing everything always works great. I always tweet when I find something interesting but still many peoples are there who just keep on tweeting for a whole day.

All users have their own choices, some people are there who loves to tweet more whereas some goes less with tweeting. I always tweet when I used to find something interesting other than this I don’t tweet.

I love the way CB did this. I do have a question being new to the entire tweeting environment – what’s the etiquette on the number of Tweets before one becomes a loathsome bore? With that said, and having heard Tweets have a lifespan of an hour what are the best times to get the word out? Driving to and from work – breaks or does it matter at all. Somehow 2am PST doesn’t make much sense.

Honestly , I’ve been updating my Facebook every now and then. Sometimes I used so much of my time replying to comments which is relentless.

Good call. There are certain tweets I schedule, but there are times I like being absolutely spontaneous. People don’t like it if you over tweet, but they hate it if you undertweet. My feeling is simply this: If you are on fire about an idea, tweet your butt off. So long as you aren’t a snake oil salesman, people will listen. If people don’t know how to use hootsuite, or tweet deck to screen certain words out like 4square, etc…I feel sorry for them. The point is not to unfollow people, but to screen in what you want to see, and to screen out what’s irrelevant. Right?
