Webinars Are A Cost Effective Way to Hire Me

The many faces of Chris Brogan 4

You know that I’m a professional speaker, and that I travel all over the world doing speeches for various organizations and conferences, like Humana Health Care, Disney, Coldwell Banker, as well as for conferences like BlogWorld Expo, SOBCon, and others.

What you might not realize is that I also am available to speak via a webinar or via Skype for your organization. Especially in the coming months (before October), I’ve got some spots on my calendar that would work well, if you want me to speak but maybe aren’t ready to pay my rate for a keynote, or if it’s last minute and you need something extra for your event. The difference in hiring me to do a remote presentation versus having me there in person is that I don’t mingle before and after to connect with attendees of the event, and that it’s a little harder to customize in depth, because I haven’t had as many face-to-face conversations with your people before I take the stage.

Beyond that, a virtual event with me is a swell way to grow your list, educate your membership, and build business.

If you want to talk more about it, fill out my contact form and Anne will get back to you with the particulars. Please specify that you’re thinking of either a Webinar or a Skype call when you fill out the form.

I look forward to working with you.

You might be able to get *some* pre/post interaction if you did a chat room or twitter hash thing before or after. Yes, not nearly as good as a handshake and some face time, but it might provide some insights prior to a talk.

The only reason I bring this up is that I have a friend that does radio interviews and dives into a chat room during the show, so she can field questions and get real time feedback. The difference in my suggestion is before and after versus trying to do it in real time.

It really depends on if it would be of benefit or not to both you and those given the talk to. Just throwing out some ideas :)

    • Al Pittampalli

This is a really good insight, Rick.

      • http://rickmanelius.com Rick Manelius

Thanks, Al. It’s something I’ve thought about a lot actually as I work with a ton of clients through skype. In keeping with Chris’ theme of keeping things human and meaningful, one has to try a lot harder over the web to still connect in such a way that it’s more than just a virtual person.

Case in point, my main business partner and I have worked together for 2.5 years now and have only seen each other in person 4 times, and yet it doesn’t feel like there is a computer between us anymore. Honestly, I don’t even notice that we’re not in the same room at this point!

    • http://chrisbrogan.com Chris Brogan

Pretty good idea, actually. Maybe I’ll start working that in.

I just sent a request in for information. Also really considering Kitchen Table Companies. I have good ideas, but need to be certain I am headed  in the right direction.

When I read the healing, I started scratching my head because I didn’t know what to think. After I read the post, I think it’s genius. The only way to get business to ask for it and you must put yourself out there to get it. I’m about to do that now! Thanks Chris.

    Hi Chris,

I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and I’ve learned a lot. For that, I am grateful and I thank you. That said, your posts (like this one) have trended more and more toward what comes across as blatant self promotion. For this reason, I’ve decided to stop following you. I tell you this openly because many folks simply stop following without ever giving any feedback and I felt that you might want to know why I’m unsubscribing.

    With best wishes,
    Tara

    • http://mogostyle.com Raiman Au

Just curious, Tara. I haven’t been following Chris for as long as you have, but what is it in occasional self-promotion that would make you want to unsubscribe?

I ask because so far I’ve been loving my experience here, and also because I’m working on my own business. I thought I could learn something from your thoughts!

    • http://www.thewritedesignco.com/ BillionDollarBlogger

Tara, I totally respect your feelings. But I’m with Raiman. Please share your thoughts.

As an aside. Because of where I am in my stage of business, I realize that I don’t have as many clients as I’d like because I don’t promote myself or my business services as much as I should. After reading this post, I wrote an excellent piece on my writing blog on why people should hire me as their book writing coach. It gave me the confidence I needed to let people know what I do on my blogs. I did not do that before.

And, isn’t promoting your business one of the purpose of business blogs? It just happens that the brand of Chris is his business and if he doesn’t push what he does, how is he supposed to continue to prosper?

    • http://chrisbrogan.com Chris Brogan

Oddly, I thought I had responded, but I didn’t. Sorry for that.

I most definitely self-promote. My blog gives away 91% or so of all I know how to do for free every day. As no one has stepped forward to vote to pay for my daughter’s college, I tend to put out salesy stuff now and again.

I’m sorry that doesn’t appeal. There are plenty of zero-sales blogs that are run by really nice smart people.

      • Dennis Fassett

Outstanding Chris! As you know, business, and even SOCIAL MEDIA business, is about generating cash flow. Warm fuzzies and kumbya hugs are ok, but they don’t pay private school tuition.

I was really glad, actually, to see some “blatant” sales promotion here on your site. And the fact that you posed it as a solution was great. It got me thinking about how I might engage you in a webinar for my business. Very effective.

        Keep up the great work.

        • http://www.theproductivitymaven.com Tara Rodden Robinson

          Hi Dennis,

you are absolutely correct–it’s all about the bottom line. The question is what’s the best and most effective way to reach that highly profitable place.

          With best wishes,
          Tara

      • http://www.theproductivitymaven.com Tara Rodden Robinson

        Hi Chris,

Thanks so much for replying. No one, not even me, is asking you to have zero-sales blog. That would be counterproductive. What I’m saying is usage of the words “me,” “I,” “me,” “mine” here have gone up in frequency dramatically over the past few weeks. My intent in giving you feedback is not to offend but to inform. And I do, truly, wish you great success.

If this post has read, “Webinars are a cost effective way for people to hire you” and then you’d used the post to point out that webinars are a cost effective way for people to hire Chris Brogan along with a call to action, the post would have landed very differently.

        With blessings,
        Tara

        • Dennis Fassett

Are you seriously suggesting that he start referring to himself in the third person?!?

          • http://www.theproductivitymaven.com Tara Rodden Robinson

No Dennis, I’m suggesting that he emphasize the second person pronoun, “you,” as in addressing the reader as directly as “you.”

            Best wishes,
            Tara
